Pastoral Care

It is our belief at CHINMAYA that co-education offers the richest opportunities for the children of the 21st century because it brings out the best in everybody. In the Senior School the Principal heads a team of Tutors, comprising teaching staff, who are responsible for the all round development of a small group of students under each ones care. They help identify, broaden and develop their tutees' talents and interests, and give advice about academic choices, decisions and help them iron out problems of any kind.

It is hard to overstate the strength that this tutorial system gives to Chinmaya. It simply makes a large school seem much smaller, and more personal. Tutors, as well as Housemasters and Housemistresses, act as an all-important link between parents and the school.

In the Junior School a similar role for each student is performed by the classroom teacher, and every effort is made to develop this three-way relationship between the teacher, student and parents.

  • Parents can visit their children on weekends, i.e. Saturdays and Sundays between 9:30 – 11: 30 a.m. And 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. If they wish, they may also take their children home after school on the last Friday of the month and bring them back on Sunday at 4 p.m.
  • For International Students: The school arranges pick up and drop for unaccompanied minors at Delhi airport. Parents have to submit the student’s visa and passport with the school authorities.
  • The school arranges pick up and drop for all children from Delhi. Children traveling by road or rail are accompanied by a member of staff. Children travel by air as UNACCOMPANIED MINORS and are received by their parents at the destination and on return by a member of staff. Parents consenting to this may send an e-mail to the school confirming their decision. This facility will be extended only for vacations which are more than 7 days. The charges levied will be billed to the child's account.

Health, Nutrition & Well being

Being a residential school means that the well – being of every child is our priority – from the food that they eat every day, to their day-today-health and their security in the event of natural disasters.

Open gymnasium is a unique facility provided by the school. It is scientifically designed to support physical growth of the children. It has less chances of injury and less hazards. Children can use it under able supervision of trained gym trainer.

In consultation with a nutritionist, the overall meal plan for the children is drawn up to ensure a well balanced diet to meet their needs.

The school dining hall serves vegetarian and egg meals, however the quality standards and variety is monitored closely.

There is an in house infirmary capable of giving first aid, and is overseen by the Health Centre in the University campus. In case of an emergency the child is rushed to the nearest hospital.

In preparation for unforeseeable natural disaster or eventualities, the school has been designed with large corridors and easily accessible exits to facilitate immediate evacuation.

Furthermore, disaster management classes and regular drills are held to ensure that every child is aware of safety measures in case of such eventualities.

The school has an in-house health care centre with a qualified in-house doctor. In case of any emergencies, the case will be rushed to the nearest hospital. Medical leave can be taken on the approval of the school doctor or if any doctor deems it necessary. Leave for any other purpose may be taken only after giving prior notice to the Principal and receiving the Principal’s approval.

Parents, children and their respective house mistresses are given a unique identity address (accessible only to them) on the website, via which they are able to report the child’s development. This helps parents to keep up-to-date with their child’s progress at the click of a button.

Additionally, cell phones are given to each child to call their parents on a fixed day every week. The child is permitted to speak to any member of his/her family. The children have emailing facilities during the week. Social networking is permitted.

They have regular, supervised town outings and week ends with parents every month.
Students will be granted an extra outing on the recommendation of the House Mistress and the Principal’s approval, as a reward for exemplary performance or good behaviour.

Different excursions are organized for kids at various periods. Outings to the town arranged by the school are organized twice a month. Parents may also take their kids on outings on these days. Night outs may be taken only with prior permission from the Principal. Trips will be organized once every term to different locations within the country and abroad.

Fifty seven of us from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Nauni had a memorable and exciting trip to Pondicherry.

The city of Pondicherry was designed based on the French grid pattern and features neat sectors and perpendicular streets. The town is divided into two sections: the French Quarter (Ville Blanche or 'White town') and the Indian quarter (Ville Noire or 'Black Town'.) Many streets still retain their French names, and French style villas are a common sight. In the French quarter, the buildings are typically colonial style with long compounds and stately walls. The Indian quarter consists of houses lined with verandas and houses with large doors and grills. These French and Indian style houses are identified and their architecture is preserved from destruction by an organisation named INTACH. The use of the French language can still be seen and heard in Pondicherry.

The children had a great learning experience visiting the Aurobindo Ashrams, Auroville, Chunnambar Beach Resort, Pogoland, shopping experiences and much more.

They had a wonderful journey by Rajdhani Express to Chennai from Delhi and returned by Indigo Airlines from Chennai to Chandigarh via Mumbai.
