When was the School established?

The School was established in 1984 by Dr.Y.S.Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry for the children of its faculty who reside inside the campus of the University. In 1992 it was taken over by the Chinmaya mission. It got affiliated to the CBSE in the same year.

What is the size of the School and the number of students?

The School is spread over about 11 acres of land. The number of students in the School is about 400.

The School is up to what level?

The School is from 1st to Class XII.

To which Board is the School affiliated?

The School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi.

How to reach the School?


The School is about 320 kms from Delhi and can be reached by road in about 7 hrs and 30 mts. Those who travel by road are advised to start early in the morning to avoid rush hour traffic and save about 2 hrs. The route is via Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Zirakpur and Kalka.


This is by far the best way to visit the School. There are a number of trains running between Delhi and Kalka. Each train has a connecting toy train running from Kalka to Solan but because the toy train takes a long time to reach Solan and also because the School is another 15 kms from Solan, it is advisable to hire a taxi from Kalka to the School. The taxi rates are about Rs.1100 for single way or to and fro travel. Those people who want to go back on the same day are advised to travel to Kalka by the morning Shatabdi Express and return by the evening Shatabdi. The nearest airports to the School are Chandigarh and Shimla. It takes about two and a half hours from Chandigarh and one and a half hours from Shimla to reach the School by taxi.

Where to stay while visiting the School?

There are a number of hotels in Solan like Himani Resots, Paragon Hotel, Ambusha Resorts, Mayur Hotel etc. Himani Resorts is best of the lot.

Is the School Co-educational?

Yes, the School is Co-educational.

Do boys and girls have separate hostels?

Yes, boys and girls have separate hostel.

When does the School session start?

The School session starts on the first working day of April every year and ends somewhere in the third week of March. The session for Class XI starts on the 15th of April every year. New admits generally join the School between March and June.

What is the average Class size?

Each Class on an average has 15-20 students thus providing individual attention to the students.

Does the School admit children of other Boards?

Yes, the School admits children from other Boards.

Do you allow children to call their parents on phone?

The children are not allowed to call their parents. On the other hand the parents are allowed to call their children once a week on designated days and timings.

Is there any other mode of communication?

The students are allowed to send emails under supervision and letter writing is compulsory once a fortnight.

Do you allow the parents to meet their children & take them out?

The parents are advised to visit their children on Saturdays after School hours if they so wish. They can take the child out for the night and leave the child back on Sunday evening or Monday morning, only if it is not made a practice.

Do you take students out for tours, treks etc.?

Yes, the children are taken on an educational tour (optional) of 5-7 days every year. In addition they are taken on regular outings to places like Shimla, Kausali etc. A camp is also organised every year.

Is the School only for Hindus?

The School has students of various religions like Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs,Budhists and Christians and all the students are encouraged to practise their own religion in their own way.

Do the students get separate rooms?

No, there are no separate rooms, there are different dormitories accommodating between 12 to 28 children.

Who looks after the small kids?

There are matrons who look after the small kids and house masters who look after the different dormitories supervised by a Hostel Suprintendent.

Do you provide Non-vegetarian food?

We provide only vegetarian food with eggs.

What sort of drinking water is provided?

We have Reverse Osmosis (RO) filters for the children.

Are fruits and milk provided?

Yes seasonal fruits are provided regularly and milk twice a day. All meals have green vegetables, pulses and yogurt. Sweet dish is provided daily during dinner.

What about the children who do not eat properly?

Special attention is given to such children and a teacher is made responsible to look after the child.

What about laundry?

There is in house laundry. Children above Class V are encouraged to wash their own undergarments.

What are the modern facilities in the school?

Yes,we have a well equipped computer lab.

Do the students take part in tournaments?

Yes, tournaments are held in the School in all disciplines and all the students are encouraged to take part. In addition the School holds inter School tournaments and also sends the children to other Schools to participate.

No, we do not provide special coaching for competitive exams. As, these days the competitive exams are based on the CBSE syllabus, so if the child does well in CBSE he/she is also likely to do well in all entrance exams.
